Your Digital Twin could be your new best friend

--

Your digital twin can pinch hit for you when you are busy.

In November, I was invited to present and attend the CFE Media and Technology Executive Conference.

I want to share with you one of the coolest things I learned at the conference:

People are creating “digital twins” with artificial intelligence (AI).

Peter Klein and Ursula van Graan of Educated Change provided us presentations that challenged my thinking about AI. They explained that a digital twin is an AI version of you and a bot that can pinch hit for you when you are busy. 🤩

Imagine this:

  1. Frequent Questions
Your Digital Twin goes with you everywhere and learns the answers to the frequent questions you get plus stays current on with your work.
  2. Proxy for You
While you are sleeping, in meetings or on vacation, your Digital Twin promptly answers your text messages, emails and voicemails for you.

Benefits
This results is your people get answers they need more quickly. Plus due to the unloading of this administrative work, you are able spend more time on higher-level tasks.

Still Personally Connect
Your Digital Twin would provide you a nice summary of what transpired while you were away. This way you would stay informed AND be able follow-up personally with the people who reached out. Plus you would be a step ahead because of your Digital Twin’s assistance providing them what they could on your behalf.

Doesn’t that sound amazing?

You can ask the new Bing upto four questions a day.

Having Fun with the new Bing

I think your Digital Twin’s summaries would be just as nice as the summaries I am getting from the new Bing.

Another take-away for me from the CFE conference was that I learned about new Bing. Anyone can ask new Bing up to four questions a day. I’ve been doing this since the conference.

It has helped me better understand what’s possible now because of AI and imagine what could be possible. Plus, it’s a blast. 🤩

I want you to give new Bing a whirl if you have not already.

Challenge yourself to use new Bing every day in new ways. It will help you create a vision of what’s possible in your organization due to AI.

Do this:

  1. Go to www.bing.com
  2. Type in a real question in a sentence format. You can even type a paragraph giving background before your question, and/or ask related questions together, even ask for your results in a table.
  3. Press enter and get an awesome detailed answer really fast!
  4. (And I love this. ❤️ ). Look below the answer for links to the sources new Bing used.
Having a digital twin “working” for you can free you up to do more complex and interesting work.

✅ More Time for Higher Level Work

To me new Bing and my Digital Twin will be two new junior members of my team. Their support will free me up to do more complex and interesting work.

However, like I would for any junior member of my team, when they produce work for me, I’ll be sure to check it over.

Dull, Dirty and Dangerous

At the CFE conference, Deb Kling from the Association for Advancing Automation emphasized that repetitive tasks and predictive steps that can be done with automation and AI will continue to be replaced by machines.

She shared the shorthand of Dull, Dirty and Dangerous, that is used to describe the types of tasks targeted to be handled by machines.

I think most people would like to see Dull, Dirty and Dangerous tasks removed from their jobs.

When these DDD tasks are moved from an employee’s job to machines, the employee’s job will change to include higher-level, more complex tasks that require them to partner with other employees.

Size the Transformation Needed

Reach out to me to assess the impact of these changes on your team members and as important, the impact AI is bringing to People Managers’ responsibilities.

The People Manager will :

  • Shift away from being a manager who is primarily monitoring their team members’ adherence to discrete easily measurable tasks
  • Evolve into a manager who inspires and pushes their team members grow and do higher and higher level work that requires them to lean into their soft skills, or as I like to call them, their In Real Life (IRL) business skills like problem solving, creativity and teamwork.
Keeping It ready Was Work, “Warmly Demanding” In Real Life Connection

Keeping It Real at Work by Colleen McFarland

My presentation, Keeping It Real at Work, “Warmly Demanding” In Real Life Connection generated a lot of enthusiastic discussion at the CFE Conference.

Examples of Warm Demander Leaders were shared as we listed the reasons this leadership style is exactly what is needed in organizations leveraging or getting ready to leverage AI and automation.

I would love to get your leaders talking about how to be warm demanders as they put AI and automation in place.

Key Points

  • Warm Demander is a leader who strikes balance ⚖️ between connecting authentically with others and pushing them to engage and excel
  • The most successful leaders driving change are those who get to know the human side ❤️ of their stakeholders and who govern ⚙️ their projects firmly, insisting on progress

Based on the coming changes to team members jobs with AI and automation, it is incumbent upon you to have Warm Demander leaders.

  • Get started on transforming your People Leaders from leaders who slow down growth to leaders who inspire growth.
